Petitgrain Bigarade oil is extracted from the Bitter Orange evergreen tree, native to China. It produces white fragrant flowers and small fleshy orange fruit. It is most likely a cross between the pomelo and the mandarin. Very popular in perfumery, it also has a reputation medicinally as a stimulant and appetite suppressant, due to its active ingredient, synephrine. It is also thought to bring calm and composure.
This oil is currently extracted from the leaves of the tree but was originally extracted from the green, unripe oranges when they were the size of cherries, hence the name petitgrain. The distillation has been widely used for its alluring aroma in perfumery. Its cleansing, restorative tones have also been promoted to aid intellectual clarity, and to help in times of anger or panic. A blend of Sandalwood and Petitgrain Bigarade has been used with reported success by a range of anger management groups in New Zealand to promote a calm atmosphere for effective communication.
Fragrance notes
Fresh, hot and tart. Halfway between a sweet orange and a bitter grape. A subtle hint of green herb.
Blending notes
Blends well with: Bergamot, Rose, Geranium, Rosewood and Neroli.

Precautions
Safe when used as directed. Safe to use with other medication when necessary. If accidentally ingested do not induce vomiting, follow with olive oil or milk and seek advice from a health specialist. Avoid contact with eyes – flush with water. Keep out of reach of children.

Directions
Nervous system support
Add 5 drops to a diffuser. Enhance with 3 drops of Geranium and 2 drops of Bergamot. Repeat as required.
Calm and composure
Blend 7 drops with 3 drops of Sandalwood or Cedarwood Atlas and add to a diffuser or bath. Therapeutic baths should not exceed 15 minutes.
Confidence booster
Place 1 drop on each wrist, or 10 drops to a diffuser. Repeat as often as required.
Perfume
Apply 10 drops to a diffuser or bath, or wear on pulse points as required. Therapeutic baths should not exceed 15 minutes.
