Sage is a perennial, evergreen short, woody shrub with silvery gray leaves and purple flowers. It is native to the Mediterranean region, but now cultivated in many parts of the world. It is widely used as a culinary herb and has a savory, slightly peppery flavour. It has long been used in perfumes, skin care and is known to have a calming, grounding effect on the mind.
Sage gets its name from the Latin word ‘salvarae’ which means ‘salvation’. Sage has one of the longest histories of use of any culinary or medicinal herb. Ancient Greeks revered it as a sacred herb and it was thought to have miracle medicinal properties. Many people believed that if Sage prospered in their garden that the owner of the garden would prosper too. Herbalists have used it externally to treat sprains, swelling, ulcers and bleeding. Sage tea has been used to treat sore throats and coughs. The nervous system, memory and senses are also said to benefit from Sage, as well as many conditions, including joint pain, grief, grey hair, and even snake bites.

Precautions
Sage is a reported abortifacient therefore avoid during pregnancy, breast-feeding and on babies/children. Do not use where epilepsy is suspected. Do not use where cancerous conditions exist. Due to its high percentage of ketones (approx. 60%) Sage must always be used in small dosages and only where the above conditions are not present. Safe to use with other medication when necessary. If accidentally ingested do not induce vomiting, follow with olive oil or milk and seek advice from a health specialist. Avoid contact with eyes – flush with water. Keep out of reach of children.

Directions
Calm
Add 1-2 drops and 4-5 drops of Lemon to a diffuser. Replenish as required.
Hormone balance
Add 2 drops and 4 drops of Rose or Geranium Rose to hot/warm water, soak a cloth and wring out thoroughly. Apply this compress to the lower abdomen. Repeat regularly.
Stamina
Add 1-2 drops to a diffuser.
